Graph Zero 13oz "Natural Dyeing Kakishibu" Regular Straight Jeans

From Kojima, Kurashiki—Japan’s denim heartland—Graph Zero presents a remarkable expression of tradition and innovation: selvedge jeans dyed with kakishibu, a natural tannin dye extracted from unripe persimmons. Crafted from 13oz organic cotton, the denim is woven on vintage shuttle looms to achieve a rich, textured fabric with a distinctive, uneven character and handwoven feel.

The kakishibu dyeing process uses the traditional kase-zome (skein dyeing) method. Each individual yarn is dyed by hand, resulting in subtle irregularities and a complex, earthy tone that deepens with age. Unlike indigo, which fades, kakishibu naturally darkens over time through exposure to sunlight, creating a unique patina personal to the wearer.

The warp threads are dyed with persimmon tannin, while the weft remains undyed. Both are nep yarns, producing a slubby, vintage-inspired surface that captures the essence of early workwear with a modern edge.

Inspired by 1940s wartime five-pocket jeans, the relaxed straight cut has been reinterpreted with Graph Zero’s signature attention to detail: hidden rivets, chain-stitched hems, cotton sewing threads that age beautifully, a brown selvedge ID, a selvedge coin pocket, a red tab on the back pocket, custom Japanese pocket lining, and a debossed cowhide leather patch.

Fit Notes: Graph Zero Jeans fit true to size. We generally recommend selecting your usual size or sizing up one size for this model. However, we always suggest checking the size chart first to ensure the perfect fit. It is unsanforized but has been one-washed, so there will be no further shrinkage. The waist will experience the typical stretching seen in Graph Zero denim due to the low-tension weave. Expect approximately 1 inch of stretching.
