Sugar Cane 9oz Western Denim Shirt
Inspired by the golden age of American Western wear, the Sugar Cane Western Shirt is a masterful blend of rugged authenticity and refined Japanese craftsmanship. Based on vintage Western shirts from the 1950s and 1960s, this piece captures the essence of cowboy style while updating it with a modern, tailored silhouette.
The denim fabric is meticulously developed by Sugar Cane, crafted from 100% cotton and produced entirely in Japan—from spinning and rope-dyeing the indigo yarns to the final weave. The result is a medium-weight 9oz. denim that balances durability with comfort. The shirt undergoes a one-wash process to minimize shrinkage and achieve a soft, broken-in texture right out of the box.
Designed with historical accuracy, the SC28190 features iconic Western detailing: front and back yokes that were originally intended to protect the shoulders during horseback riding, and snap buttons that could be quickly undone if the shirt got caught on gear or horns. Each of the 18 pearl snap buttons is made from genuine shell, giving subtle variations in color and luster unique to each shirt. Triple snap-button cuffs, twin chest pockets with pointed flaps, and a curved shirttail complete the classic design.
While it retains the functional toughness of vintage workwear—with double-needle chain-stitched seams for extra strength—the fit has been refined for modern wear. The body is slightly tapered at the waist for a more flattering silhouette compared to traditional work shirts, making it ideal for both casual and smart-casual styling.
Whether paired with jeans and boots or layered under a jacket, it delivers timeless Western charm, exceptional build quality, and the distinctive texture of Japanese indigo denim—a true blend of heritage and contemporary style.
Fit Notes: Despite being a Japanese shirt, we find the sizing of Sugar Cane shirts to be more Western than Japanese. If you usually wear a size M in American shirts, you'll find a suitable fit with this shirt in size M. However, as always, we recommend consulting our size chart for the perfect fit.
