Tanuki TNK402KH "Kakishibu" 14.5oz Type II Jacket
The “Kakishibu” fabric represents a milestone in the brand’s exploration of natural dyeing and innovative denim craftsmanship. Made from a 14.5oz Japanese selvedge denim, this fabric is woven using short-staple cotton from Australia and Texas, giving it a highly slubby, textured character that denim enthusiasts will instantly recognize.
What makes this fabric truly exceptional is its kakishibu-dyed weft, created from fermented persimmon extract. Unlike most wefts, this one visibly influences the indigo-dyed warp, resulting in a deep, warm blue tone with striking dimension. As with all kakishibu, the fabric evolves with sunlight exposure, developing a unique patina over time. This is a limited-edition fabric that Tanuki will not reproduce, making each pair all the more special.
The jacket features a modified Type II fit, with added length to accommodate convenient hand warmer pockets—combining style and practicality. It also includes interior pockets for added functionality, allowing you to carry your essentials with ease. Signature Tanuki details complete the piece: an electric blue selvedge ID, custom copper hardware and vegetable-tanned deerskin leather patch.
Fit Notes: Although it's a Japanese-made jacket, the sizing of this Tanuki Type II is more Western than traditional Japanese fits—consistent with most Tanuki garments. If you typically wear a size M in American jackets, a size 40 (M) in this model should fit you well. As always, we recommend checking the size chart to ensure the perfect fit. The fabric is unsanforized but one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected.
